Delta Air Lines has announced the introduction of Nigerian cuisine on its Lagos-Atlanta route, enhancing the in-flight dining experience for passengers.
Passengers flying from Murtala Muhammed International Airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport can now enjoy traditional Nigerian dishes such as ewa agoyin (mashed beans with spicy sauce) and jollof rice, alongside continental options.
In the premium Delta One cabin, the dining experience begins with starters like sliced beef fillet with pineapple salsa and sweet chili sauce, corn soup with toasted corn salsa, or a mixed greens salad with spicy lemon dressing, accompanied by a sunflower roll and butter.
Main course options include roasted cod with basmati rice, agoyin-style beans, and sweet plantains; grilled chicken thigh with jollof rice and plantain; and a plant-based bean stew with rice, spinach, tomatoes, and fried onions for vegetarians.
Dessert selections feature pineapple upside-down tart with whipped cream, fresh seasonal fruits, classic ice cream sundaes, and a refined fruit and cheese plate.
As the flight approaches Atlanta, a final meal is served, offering spicy chicken pie, vegetable salad with zesty lemon dressing, and mini desserts. Vegetarian passengers can opt for jollof risotto with roasted vegetables and spicy tomato sauce, paired with fresh fruit and mini desserts.
This initiative aligns with the directive issued by Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in October 2024, requiring foreign airlines to patronize local caterers for on-board meals, effective January 1, 2025.
By incorporating Nigerian dishes into its menu, Delta Air Lines not only complies with local regulations but also offers passengers an authentic taste of Nigeria, enhancing their travel experience.
